Behind the Lens
Joey Mendolia is the founder and Creative Director of Mendolia Media Productions.
Before launching MM Productions, Joey worked as a Business & Biodiversity Consultant at Tandem Global (formerly Wildlife Habitat Council), working directly with Fortune 500 sustainability programs at companies including WM, Toyota, CEMEX, Bayer, and Johnson & Johnson. His specific focus included ESG alignment, materiality assessments, landscape restoration planning, green infrastructure recommendations, and nature based solutions.
As a journalist and documentary filmmaker, Joey spent seven years producing environmental, science, and news content for public media — including Alaska Public Media and PBS NewsHour. That work earned an Emmy nomination for Best Human Interest Feature, an Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Documentary, Best Video Award from the Associated Press, and further recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists, RTDNA, and the Alaska Press Club.
Joey is currently a PhD candidate in Media Communications at Colorado State University, where his research focuses on environmental storytelling and science communication. He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Sustainability from Indiana University, a Master of Science in Journalism: Health, Science and Environment from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Boston University. He is certified in Nature-Based Infrastructure (IISD) and Grant Writing for Wildlife Conservation (WildTeamUK).
